White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down from her position at the end of August, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday.

Leavitt, 28, made history as the youngest person ever to serve as White House press secretary. She has become one of the administration’s most recognizable public faces since Trump returned to the White House in January 2025.

Her departure comes just months after Leavitt became a mother for the second time. She and her husband welcomed their daughter, Viviana “Vivi," in May. Leavitt recently returned from maternity leave and has spoken publicly about balancing the demands of the White House with raising her young family.

Trump said Leavitt is leaving the position to spend more time with her children and family, but she is not leaving Trump’s political operation.

“Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors, and an influential voice within the Republican Party, as we work to defy History, and conclusively win the Midterm Elections,” Trump said.

Trump also praised Leavitt’s work in his administration and her involvement in his successful 2024 presidential campaign, calling her one of the best press secretaries to serve in the position.

The White House has not yet announced who will replace Leavitt as press secretary.
