VERO BEACH, Fla. — A woman has died after being found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in a Vero Beach roadway Sunday morning, prompting a homicide investigation by the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

According to information released by authorities and reported by WPTV, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at approximately 8:41 a.m. reporting an adult woman in the roadway in the 500 block of 1st Street.

Responding deputies located the woman suffering from what authorities described as an apparent gunshot wound and immediately began lifesaving measures.

She was transported to a trauma center, where she was later pronounced dead.

Detectives and crime scene personnel responded to the area and began processing the scene as part of what authorities say is an active homicide investigation.

Authorities have identified Matthew Allen Waggle, born December 8, 1992, as a person of interest in the investigation.

Law enforcement is actively searching for Waggle. Authorities are asking anyone who sees him or knows his whereabouts not to approach him and to call 911.

Authorities have not publicly identified the woman, and no information has been released regarding the circumstances that led to the shooting.
