SEBASTIAN, Fla. — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday night in Sebastian.

According to the Sebastian Police Department, the shooting occurred at approximately 9:34 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in the 500 block of Joy Haven Drive. A person was killed in the incident.

Two Sebastian police officers were involved, according to the department. Both have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation, a standard procedure following an officer-involved shooting.

The investigation has been turned over to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Authorities have not yet publicly identified the person who was killed or the officers involved. Police also have not released what prompted the encounter, whether the person was armed, how many shots were fired or whether body-camera footage captured the incident.

Sebastian Police said additional information will be released as it becomes available and can appropriately be disclosed.
