1. Florida Appeals Court Warns Lawyers About “AI Slop” — and the Court Covers Indian River County

Florida's Fourth District Court of Appeal has ordered attorney Jaclyn R. Soroka to explain why she should not face sanctions after the court said filings appeared to contain AI-generated components and included frivolous or poorly reasoned arguments. The court stressed that its concern was not fabricated citations — the cited cases existed — but what it described as AI-assisted drafting without meaningful independent legal judgment.
The Fourth DCA is directly relevant to the Treasure Coast because it handles appeals from the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit, including Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin and Okeechobee counties, along with Palm Beach and Broward.
2. Florida Property-Tax Amendment Becomes a Major November Ballot Fight
Florida's Amendment 3 would increase the homestead exemption for non-school property taxes to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028, with inflation adjustments afterward. It would also reduce the annual assessment-growth cap for non-homestead property from 10 percent to 5 percent.
Supporters argue the proposal would provide substantial relief to homeowners, while opponents and some local-government officials warn that reducing taxable value could pressure county and municipal budgets. The amendment requires at least 60 percent voter approval.
3. Trump Says Proposed Washington Arch Will Become a Military Complex

President Donald Trump said Sunday that the proposed 250-foot triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery would also function as a military complex. Trump said the facility could support drones, snipers and ammunition storage and said the military requested the additional security function.

The proposal had previously been promoted primarily as a monument connected to America's 250th anniversary. Questions remain about which military entity requested the change, the project's approval process and how the added military purpose could affect its design and authorization.

4. Major Ukrainian Drone Attack Hits Moscow Region and Oil Refinery
Russian authorities said two people were killed during one of the largest Ukrainian drone attacks yet on the Moscow region, while drones also reached a major oil refinery in the Russian capital. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said more than 1,600 drones had been downed since Saturday, including 450 headed toward Moscow; those figures are Russian government claims and have not been independently verified in full.

The attacks come as both Russia and Ukraine continue targeting energy infrastructure. The damage to refining capacity is significant beyond the battlefield because sustained attacks on energy facilities can affect petroleum supply and global markets.
5. World Leaders Gather in New York as Wars Dominate U.N. General Assembly Week

World leaders are gathering in New York for the United Nations General Assembly's high-level week, with the wars involving Ukraine and the Middle East expected to dominate diplomacy. The U.N. says the General Debate begins September 22 as governments address security, development, climate and other international issues.

President Trump is expected to address the gathering as U.S. foreign policy, sanctions, energy security and ongoing conflicts remain central issues. IRC Media will be watching for concrete U.S. policy announcements and international agreements rather than simply the speeches themselves.
