PALM BAY, Fla. — A Palm Bay woman escaped an alleged assault Thursday evening after fighting off a man who reportedly attacked her while she was searching for her missing cat near her home.

According to the Palm Bay Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. in the area of Ulster Avenue.

Investigators say the woman was outside looking for her pet when she was approached by a man who allegedly knocked her to the ground and attempted to prevent her from leaving. Despite the attack, she was able to resist, break free, and flee the area before contacting law enforcement.

Officers responded quickly and searched the surrounding neighborhood for several hours but were unable to locate the suspect that evening.

Police say the investigation continued into Friday, when officers spotted a man matching the suspect’s description back in the same neighborhood. The individual was taken into custody without incident.

Authorities identified the suspect as 29-year-old Esby Aldana, who has been arrested in connection with the incident. Officials have not yet released additional information regarding the charges or a possible motive.

The victim was able to escape safely, although she has indicated the experience was deeply traumatic. Police have not released information about the extent of any injuries.
